Home Security – Control System
The foundation of every good home security system is the selection of the right control panel equipment which is integral to all the operational and communications features which form the heart of your home security system. Selection of the right home alarm control panel requires identification of the following essential parameters:
The panel size or how many zone inputs are required for the premises normally comes in multiples of 8 or 16 zone inputs and it’s important to allow spare inputs or select an expandable system to ensure it can meet any future needs you may have.
The Code Pad Type, Quantity and location is also a critical part of your system design as this is the client interface that controls the operation of the system. Code Pads can be complimented with the addition of remote controls which can provide easy Arm/Disarm/Duress features with Aux buttons for the operation of roller doors etc.
Detection Equipment – Indoor
Internal motion detection is the most common and most effective form of internal protection because it can provide protection to a large internal area and protect a great number of valuable household items in a very cost effective manner.
To ensure the reliability and effective operation of any security system the key is ensuring the Quality and Reliability of the detection equipment utilised. MSE Alarms only uses highest quality commercial grade detection equipment that has been tried and tested to ensure maximum reliability. Our minimum specification motion detectors are all Quad or Double-Dual detection devices which many security providers would consider and upgrade at additional cost. We also specify Tri-Mode detection equipment for proven Pet Immunity or especially harsh environments.
Once you have selected the correct type and location for each detection device, it’s essential to install and configure it correctly to ensure suitable coverage of the protected area and reliable operation. The ongoing reliability of your detection equipment relies greatly on the user maintaining the protected area in a stable and secure manner that it was intended for.
Detection Equipment – Outdoor
External motion detection equipment can provide additional protection to your home by forming a barrier of external motion detection around your home and/or by providing protection to valuable items stored outside such as sporting equipment, outdoor furniture, motor vehicles or bikes etc which can be of significant value.
To ensure the reliability and effective operation of any security system the key is ensuring the Quality and Reliability of the detection equipment utilised, which dictates only the most robust and reliable equipment is used for outdoor detection. MSE Alarms only uses the highest quality commercial grade detection equipment that has been tried and tested to ensure maximum reliability in outdoor applications. Our minimum specification for external detector equipment requires a suitable IP Rating of 55 or above with Double-Dual or Triple detection technology, Pet Immunity and suitable for harsh environments.
Photo Electric Beam – Perimeter Detection
Photo Electric or PE Beams are another detection device that provides a reliable barrier of protection between two fixed mount locations that can be from 5m to 150m apart in both indoor and outdoor environments. PE Beams provide a wide range of coverage allowing them to be used in harsh or difficult environments providing a very large barrier detection around your yard, carport, patio or driveway providing protection to valuable goods stored outside such as sporting equipment, outdoor furniture, motor vehicles or bikes etc which can be of significant value.
PE Beams provide a extremely reliable barrier of detection between two fixed locations by typically transmitting a dual or quad beam of infrared light (invisible to human eye) from one device (Transmitter Unit) to the other device (Receiver Unit). In the event the Dual or Quad beam of infrared light is interrupted for the specified time interval this would result in an alarm condition. The interruption time period is required as a filter for outdoor applications where birds could potentially fly through a beam causing unwanted alarms, hence the time for a person to run through or a vehicle drive through a beam is much greater than a bird flying though.
Magnetic Contacts
Magnetic Contacts or Magnetic Reed Switches are the oldest, simplest and most reliable forms of detection which are typically used to provide detection on doors and windows that form part of the entry path or provide perimeter protection to your home.
These Magnetic Contacts come in a variety of colours shapes and specifications to accommodate the different applications they would be used for such as a small concealed bullet reed switch that would be used on a standard timber entry door, a heavy duty flush or surface reed used for aluminium sliding doors or even the Armoured Magnetic Contact required for a garage roller door.
Once you have selected the correct type and location for the Magnetic Contact it is essential that it is installed and configured correctly to ensure reliable operation. The ongoing reliability of your detection equipment relies greatly on the user securing the protected area as originally intended.
Fire – Smoke/Thermal
Your security alarm system can easily provide supplementary fire protection by the connection and monitoring of a range of smoke alarms, thermal detectors or even a fire alarm panel to reduce the level of fire risk to your premises and contents.
Under the Building Code of Australia Class 1 & 2 residential premises require smoke alarms fitted in compliance under AS3786. Alternatively larger or commercial premises may require a comprehensive fire system in compliance with AS 1670 if required under the Building Code of Australia.
NOTE: The addition of fire protection to any premises needs to be carefully evaluated to ensure it meets with the minimum legislative requirements before any supplementary fire alarm equipment is added to your home security system.
Glass Break Detection
The use of glass break detection can be useful on any premises with large glassed areas or glass doors that represent a significant risk of forced entry or theft. Glass break detection can provide an additional layer of perimeter protection or early warning as the breakage of glass doesn’t necessarily result in unauthorised entry but can trigger local warning (sirens & strobe light) and report remotely (alarm monitoring).
Glass break detection is commonly used in commercial applications such as shop windows that have valuable stock items displayed or glass display cabinets in jewellery stores but they can also be very effective in home security systems where there are large amounts of glassing or glassed doors for additional security or early warning.
MSE only use commercial grade glass break detection equipment that utilise signature recognition technology that recognises the unique signature of glass breaking and are UL listed for use with laminated glass to ensure reliable detection.
Home Automation – Mobile Applications
We provide a wide range of products with Mobile applications available on App Store and Google Play that can be configured to provide anything from a Mobile Application for remote Arm/Disarm through to a complete home of automation.
With todays technology all things are possible but not all things are beneficial which is always our approach to security design but this is never more relevant than with home automation and remote applications. When evaluating your requirements the first and foremost consideration must always be security, then practicality and then the value associated with having each application.
It’s important to understand that each application needs to be evaluated, designed to be user friendly and then integrated to your home security system. The bespoke nature of this design can be costly so it’s important to evaluate the cost v benefit to ensure value.
Warning Signage
The very best security is prevention and your first line of security is to deter potential intruders so suitable warning signage is an essential part of your security. If you are going to the trouble and expense of installing a professional security system then it pays to ensure you have adequate Warning Signage located in suitable locations.
